Time Unseen - textile project

NATURAL EVENTS IN NORTHERN SPACE

Time Unseen is an international textile design project consisting of a group of creative and innovative textile design students from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, based in Helsinki, Finland. Our class has been invited to participate in the largest international textile trade fair – Heimtextil – which takes place in Frankfurt, Germany in January 2014.
We sought and derived inspiration from Finnish nature, and step-by-step, the foundation and theme for our project began to build up from some of the mysteries of our surroundings: lichens, mycelium, bryophytes, roots and the cortex of trees. One could say that this project has been inspired by all things “curious” when it comes to growth and the way different shapes and textures grow on various surfaces. We seek to explore the way time erodes and the way it affects everything around us; how surfaces and shapes modify and rebuild over time.
With this over-arching theme as our foundation, we identified a scale of natural greys amongst a few carefully picked highlight colors for the color palette. Our natural, mysterious inspiration combined with this fresh and harmonious color palette serves to provide a plethora of new, fresh and distinctive designs.

Our team is designing lamp shades and different 'textile tiles' for wall. In addition we have a few stuffed figures just to add something fun.

We are extremely motivated and excited about this project and we are thrilled to share with you both the process and the outcome that this hard work and dedication has birthed.
Finally, we would like to represent ourselves as an integrated and harmonious whole, as well as individual designers with our own, unique personal designs.

Welcome to our blog! We hope you enjoy following our project.
